Becoming a School Board Director

​Are you interested in serving as a School Board Director?

Being a school board director is a great way to give back to the community and to help ensure children get a good education.  School board directors are publicly elected officials - parents and grandparents, young people and senior citizens, and community members from all walks of life.

What does a school board do?

School directors work together to oversee the school district.  Together their primary responsibilities are:
- Select and evaluate the superintendent
- Adopt and revise the annual operating budget
- Review, revise and adopt policies
- Serve as community representatives
- Monitor the district's progress towards its goals

How Many school board directors are in North Kitsap?

North Kitsap has five director positions, each representing one of 5 districts.  Board positions are 4 year terms and are on rotating election years.

  • District 2, currently represented by Jim Almond
  • District 4, currently represented by Glen Robbins
  • District 5, currently represented by Cindy Webster-Martinson
  • District 3 is also open for a two-year term from 2019 through 2021.  Currently represented by Beth Worthington

Candidate filing for the 2019 election is May 13-17.

Interested in learning more about being a school board director?  

The City of Poulsbo is hosting a session on how to get involved in local government and will include information regarding eligibility and filing guidelines, as well as a panel discussion that includes Poulsbo City Council members, Poulsbo Mayor, Superintendent Evans, and a North Kitsap School Board Director.
