7th 8th Grade Guitar Rock History

This week, the students were introduce to the style and form of the 12 Bar Blues.  They are learning  call and response  style through the classic "Boom Boom" by John Lee Hooker.  I have sent the students home with a diagram of the chords changes for a 12 Bar blues Cycle in  the key of E for reference as they  practice the bass riff for Boom Boom.

We are well on the way to forming musical ensembles for performance. Students have become knowledgeable with the workings and basic skills for playing riffs and simple chord combinations on the guitar or bass. Basic percussive rhythms skills are being explored and students are learning the form of songs. We are focusing mainly on the 12 bar blues form and structure.

Our current song list:
Boom Boom by Lighting Hopkins
That's Alright Mama by Elvis Pressley
Train Kept Rollin by The Yardbirds
A Horse With No Name by America
Come As You Are by Nirvana

Upcoming performance dates will be communicated in the near future
