Haag, Jeff




Mr. Jeff Haag is a 1976 graduate from Tigard High School (Tigard, Oregon) and holds both a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Lewis and Clark College (1986 Portland, Oregon) and a Master of Education degree from Saint Martins University (1995 Lacey, Washington). He taught instrumental music at both the high school and middle school level in Grants Pass, Oregon before enlisting in the 9th Infantry Division/First Corps Army Band stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington where his duties included bugler NCOIC and assistant conductor. Upon completion of his tour of duty Mr. Haag came to North Kitsap School District in 1993 where he was band director at North Kitsap High School and Poulsbo elementary. Subsequent assignments have included teaching band at Wolfle, Suquamish, and Gordon elementary schools and music planning director for the new Kingston High School where he worked as Director of Bands and Choir from 2013-15.

The majority of his work has been at Kingston Junior High School/Middle School since 1994 where he has been the Director of Bands. Under his directorship the Cavalier Band has earned numerous "Superior" & "Excellent" and "Grandsweepstakes" & "First/Second Place" awards in local parades and contests as well as in Victoria, BC; Portland, OR; and Disneyland. They have performed the national anthem at Seattle Supersonic NBA basketball games four times in Seattle's Key Arena in past years. Other teaching assignments at the JHS/MS have included 7th and 8th grade social studies; EFL; 7th grade drama; and 7th grade exploratory rotation. Under his directorship at Kingston High School numerous 1st and 2nd place awards at parades plus "Superior" and "Excellent " ratings at band contests were earned by the Buccaneer Band combining with successful tours to Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.

Mr. Haag performs on french horn, trumpet, and electric/string bass. Past performance credits include the Rogue Valley Symphony and Opera Association and Continental Orchestra and Singers where he has performed with both Amy Grant and Sandi Patty on a tour of the continental US and Bermuda. His other freelance work includes performances with local area jazz and big bands and studio recordings for album, radio, and TV commercials as well as private teaching. He also is the worship coordinator at his local church. Mr. Haag is also past president of both Olympic Music Educators Association (OMEA) and Poulsbo camp of Gideon's International. Mr. Haag is a frequent adjudicator at parades, large group contests and festivals, solo/ensemble competitions and was the 2008 Honor Band Director for the North Olympic Music Educators Association (NOME) JHS/MS Honor Band. He has received various honors and awards over the years to include nomination for teacher of the year, North Kitsap Hearld's 2007 "Who's Who of North Kitsap," and a 2010 "Community Hero" award from the Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce. In his free time Mr. Haag enjoys a variety of activities and has a passion for history. He is married to the former Kathleen McConnell and they have three grown children and one grandchild.
